The Town of Okotoks has a shiny new forklift thanks to a provincial grant.
They received a $27,210 grant via the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) program.
Being electric, the new forklift doesn't require oil changes and doesn't produce exhaust, saving the town money on maintenance and reducing emissions.
Operations & Utilities Director Jeremy Huet was quoted in a release from the town.
"Adding an electric forklift to the Town's equipment fleet demonstrates our ongoing commitment to environmental leadership... Key advantages of this forklift replacement include a reduction in indoor fumes and reduced annual maintenance requirements."
The EVM is administered through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, which was established in 2009 as a collaborative effort by Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta.
They also carry out feasibility studies, which the town has expressed interest in for future projects.
The town previously received a rebate on an electric off-road vehicle used by municipal enforcement through the same program.
