Following the death of former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, several Foothills municipalities have lowered their flags out of respect.

Mulroney, who served as prime minister from 1984-1993, passed away on Feb. 29 at age 89.

The towns of High River and Diamond Valley have both posted to Facebook stating their municipal flags will be flown at half-mast until sunset on March 23, the day of Mulroney's funeral.

A member of the Town of Okotoks' communications team also confirmed the flags at each of the town's buildings would also be lowered until March 23.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office announced the date of the funeral, and that Mulroney would lie-in-state in Ottawa and lie-in-repose in Montréal before then.

More details on funeral proceedings are to be announced in the near future.
