The High River Flyers of the Heritage Junior Hockey League will be on the road for the first few months of the season.

The reason is that there's been a three-week delay with the renovations on the main ice surface at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

Returning Head Coach Colton Hayes says they're working on a plan.

"We're going to be on the road for the first two months. I think the league knows that from our end, so we'll be on the road for the first little bit probably looking to practice out of Black Diamond [Diamond Valley] I'm sure a couple of times, might even have to go out to Nanton."

While the exhibition season doesn't start until after the Labour Day long weekend in September Hayes says the team will be ready.

"We got Parker Forrest coming back between the pipes, Kashton Payne (Goalie) we still got a little bit of talking to do but we should have (Captain) Brandon Jarmen, McCallum Bakken, Ethan Burgeson should be another one coming back, Joel Burrows is another."

Colton emphasized there's still a lot of time before training camp opens, but the team finished really strong last season and went on a huge run in the playoffs.

"Near the end with our seven-game winning streak and then rolling into Cochrane and having a good series against them obviously not quite the results we wanted against Okotoks but beating them the first game in their rink during playoffs was pretty special for our group. We're just trying to build off all that momentum that we ended off the season with. We've got some new guys coming in."

The Flyers beat the Cochrane Generals in round one, then they beat the Okotoks Bisons in game one of round two but ended up losing the next three games as the Bisons went on to win another Championship over the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

Flyers Rookie sensation Connor Smith is expected to play Junior A and not Junior B this season. Smith finished the season with 62 points in 38 games.
