A 26-year-old man from Okotoks is facing a long list of charges stemming from a Wednesday afternoon shooting.

Just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday (May 1), a 53-year-old suffered a gunshot wound and had to be taken to hospital via STARS air ambulance.

RCMP Corporal Gina Slaney says Okotoks resident Kaden Clouston has now been charged.

"The Okotoks RCMP have laid charges as a result of the shooting which occurred at Sheep River Court on May 1. Kaden Clouston, he's a 26-years-old resident of Okotoks has been charged with numerous offences some of which include discharging a fireman with intent, aggravated assault and careless use of a firearm."

The other charges Clouston faces are:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x3)
  • Possession of a restricted firearm without license (x2)
  • Reckless discharge of a firearm

Slaney added "Clouston was remanded into custody. He will be appearing today in Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks via CCTV."

The 53-year-old victim continues to recover in hospital.

Okotoks RCMP also added that this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.
