Restrictions due to COVID-19 aren't stopping Youth Week from being celebrated in Okotoks.

The week recognizes youth and their participation and connection in the community but this year the week has been been adapted to meet guidelines set out by health officials due to the pandemic.

Brittany Jones, Program Coordinator for the Town of Okotoks, says it was important to the Town that they still recognized the week.

"It's a significant week no matter what. Youth are really important to everything that we do and we wanted to make sure there's still activities and that we're still celebrating any way that we possibly can."

Social distancing restrictions have meant they've had to give a makeover to the original plans, with offerings now including a free online ukulele class, yoga class, cooking class, live streamed concert, and more.

Jones says youth in the community have been incredible during the pandemic.

"The local youth here in Okotoks have really impressed me. Some of them have really stood out, one of the youth made those face shields which is so impressive. I think everyone's stepping up. I've seen lots of pictures in windows with 'thank you' messages and hearts, just being really positive and inspiring people to keep going on and that things will get better."
