The federal government's first budget was tabled Tuesday, putting Canada in the red.

The budget calls for a deficit of almost $30-billion in the fiscal year starting April 1.

There’s some money earmarked for the ag sector with $41.5 million in 2016-17 for the modernization of select Agriculture Canada Research Stations and Canadian Food Inspection Agency labs including here in Alberta.

There’s also $30 million over six years for Ag Canada to support advanced research in agricultural genomics and future funds for the ag sector to invest in clean technology.
