The two-vehicle crash north of High River on Friday claimed the life of a Highwood High School student.

It also killed a middle-aged woman and sent a passenger to hospital via STARS.

Sgt. Jason Cann with the High River RCMP detachment says they got the call just after 3:10 p.m. on Friday, June 14.

"They found that a 48-year-old female was northbound on 2A, and there was a southbound vehicle with two eighteen-year-old males in it that resulted in a head-on collision. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. The 48-year-old female was found to be deceased on scene and then the driver of the southbound vehicle, the 18-year-old male was deceased on scene as well. His passenger was flown out by STARS air ambulance and was released from hospital later that night."

While more information has yet to be provided regarding the cause of the crash, Highwood High released an email to families on Saturday.

The email contained links for grief counselling along with an announcement about Monday's diploma exams.

Grief counsellors, along with members of the Foothills School Division, are also in attendance at the high school today.

Highwood High also was approved to offer an exemption from Monday's diploma exam. Students who opt for the exemption will have their class mark stand as their final mark.
