Okotoks' Royal Canadian Legion Branch #291 will again be holding two Remembrance Day Services this year.

As with previous years, one will be held at the Centennial Green Arena, with the other at the cenotaph on Veterans Way.

President of the Okotoks Legion branch, Malcolm Hughes, says the service at the Centennial will be very much keeping in local and Legion tradition.

"The Big Rock Singers will be performing. We'll then have our usual honour ceremony along with the wreath laying, followed by the march off of the colours. The 15th Field Ambulance from Calgary will be in attendance to provide a military presence for us... The band that plays for us has been coming down for many years, since before we actually had a Legion here. It's called the Cappy Smart Band; they do an absolutely excellent job for us."

The tradition of bagpipe accompaniment will continue at this year's event, and Hughes says it'll be more pronounced this year.

"This year, for the first time, we will have multiple pipers. They will be taking a slightly different part than we've had in the past. We're hoping people will be impressed with the work that's being done to put on a relatively big ceremony, one that is solemn but also a commemoration as well as being a celebration."

Doors open at 9 a.m., with the service set to start at 10:20 a.m.

It'll also be streamed live on the Okotoks Legion's Facebook page.

The service at the cenotaph will also carry on as usual.

Road closures on Veterans Way will be in place from Mountain Street to Elizabeth Street from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The service itself goes from 10:20 a.m. to 12 p.m.
