Two Foothills County men have been arrested after the RCMP recovered over 1000 pounds of copper wire last week.

On May 2, members from the Southern Alberta District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and High River RCMP were investigating a rural property in Foothills County.

They were executing a search warrant after a GPS device on a stolen generator led them to the property.

Not only did they find the stolen generator, but they also uncovered a stolen utility trailer and over 1000 pounds of copper wire that was in the process of being stripped in preparation for reselling.

Two Foothills County men were charged as a result.

One was 53-year-old Chad Eroshinsky, who was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and theft over $5000.

The other suspect, 43-year-old Clayton Whaling, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, and breaching a court order.

Whaling had previously been charged in April after a stolen truck, flat deck trailer, and skid steer were recovered by RCMP.

Eroshinsky was released from custody to appear in court in Okotoks on July 15, and Whaling was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing before being released, and is set to appear in court in Okotoks on June 7.

The RCMP are still investigating, and they recommend that people place trackers on their stored property in case of theft.
