The Carstar Okotoks Bisons went from bronze, to silver, to gold in three years after the Herd beat La Crete Lumber Barons in their Provincial Junior B Gold medal game, winning 6-3 on Sunday afternoon (April 7).

The Bisons wouldn't let a past 5-1 defeat to the Lumber Barons in round-robin play or an early two-goal lead from La Crete deteriorate their spirits, springing back in the game to claim Provincial gold.

Team captain Lukas Watkins led his team in the comeback with the first of the Bisons goals with 3:01 left in the first period, cutting the Lumber Barons lead in half for a 2-1 hockey game.

Jady Shigehiro would do what he has done all Provincials long, finding the back of the net less than five minutes into the second frame and tying the game at 2-2.

Watkins would get his second goal of the game giving the Bisons their first lead of the contest, getting help from Adam Kirkpatrick on the go-ahead goal.

The Lumber Barons would put some pressure back on the Herd with a game-tying goal around the midway mark of the third period. Connor Claughton would answer with his second goal of the tournament and the eventual game-winner, giving the Bisons their lead back, going up 4-3 on La Crete.

Scott Brown would get his second and third goal of the tournament, with the first of the game coming on the power play and the second solidifying the win with an empty net goal.

With the win, the Bisons exorcise their demons, beating the Wainwright Bisons who they were defeated by in last year's gold medal game, then beat the only team that had given them a loss during Provincials to claim the gold medal in their third straight appearance at Provincials.

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons will be celebrating a well-earned victory and successful season as they make their way home from Peace River.
