The Venue in downtown High River has released its lineup for the Summer Series and Bandstand Sundays.

Postcards were printed and handed out at the Volunteer Fair at the Highwood Centre last Wednesday, May 15.

Director of Operations Lori Koehler says it's a mix of returning guests and some new ones.

"We're kicking off again this year with the Youth Jazz Bands. So, we've done that for six years. We're really excited to have Senator Riley and Highwood Jazz Bands back. We have a drag show later that evening, which is a ticketed event, so you do need to get a ticket from Showpass for that one but otherwise all the other shows are pay by donation. We have more theatre this year so, we're really excited Highwood High School Youth Theatre is going to do their one-act plays. The Erratic Players are later next month and of course, Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society is coming back to do 'Twelfth Night' which we're really excited about.

And then we have some new people as well. Chelsie Young is an up-and-comer. Cruz Vallis is closing out our series, another up-and-comer. So, really, really proud of what our committee pulled together and we're excited."

The Summer Series kicks off on Saturday, June 8 at 2 p.m. with the Youth Jazz Bands from Senator Riley and Highwood High School. It's followed at 7 p.m. with a Drag performance from QT Pie. The series wraps up on Saturday, August 31.

Koehler also added something new this year, the Venue has a permit now to sell alcohol at performances.

Bandstand Sundays are also lined up for the entire Summer.

Koehler says they are bringing back some favourites along with some newcomers.

"Bandstand Sundays are coming back for July and August. July 7th is our first date so there are eight performances and they run every Sunday at 1 o'clock at the bandstand in George Lane Park. Some favourites, the Highwood Shedders are coming back. We're bringing back the Lethbridge Big Band at the end of August. Lyndsay Butler is going to kick us off on July 7th so, we're super excited about that. Mark Parsons is also going to be with us.  And some new guys, Cadence Creek. One guy is local and then some singers have amazing harmonies, just blew our selection committee away with their talents so we're looking forward to welcoming them."

Koehler also reminds us that lunch will be available again this year thanks to another local organization.

"If you want to get lunch the High River Hospital Auxiliary is doing lunches again this year.  They're there around noon, our show starts at 1 p.m. with an intermission so you can grab lunch and it'll run till 3 p.m."
