BLACKFALDS, AB (February 26, 2022) – Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) stopped all 27 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season, as the Okotoks Oilers capped off their regular season with a 3-0 victory in Blackfalds over the Bulldogs on Saturday night.

With the win, the Oilers finish the season with a 28-28-4 record, securing fourth place in the AJHL South and securing home ice advantage for their first round series against Blackfalds starting next week.

Outshooting Blackfalds 12-8 in the first period, Okotoks broke the deadlock at the 11:50 mark on a 2-on-1 rush when Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) fired a pass across the slot to a waiting Ryan Neumann (Calgary, AB), whose top shelf shot beat Blackfalds goalie Lucas Massie for a 1-0 lead.

Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) doubled the lead 11:37 into the second period on a rebound goal after a Nick Wolfenberg (Calgary, AB) power play point shot had hit the post. The Oilers finished the first 40 outshooting their opposition 20-14 and leading 2-0.

The Bulldogs looked certain to get on the board early in the third with a flurry of close range chances after a turnover at the Okotoks blue line; but Sawka made his best four consecutive saves of the night, scrambling in the crease to keep his team ahead. Despite being outshot 13-4 in the furious frame, the only goal came from Okotoks when Brett Huxley (Calgary, AB) took a puck away at the neutral zone and fired it into the empty net for a shorthanded marker at 16:12 to notch the 3-0 final score.

The schedule for the first round series between the Oilers and Bulldogs is expected to be released shortly. Tickets for games in Okotoks will be on sale at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
