Rowan House Society's golf tournament was a swinging success

The Rowan House Society's 3rd annual 'Swing for Change' golf tournament was a big hit.

Executive Director Linette Soldan says they were thrilled with how well it went.

"I have to say, what an amazing day it turned out to be. The weather, the positive energy and smiles, laughter, and great conversations that were had. I have to give a special shoutout to the wonderful community members and sponsors and people who donated to Rowan House. We so appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts."

The annual event drew dozens of golfers to the D'Arcy Golf Club in Okotoks.

The non-profit women's shelter raised approximately $48,000 and they also gave back $2,490 to their 50/50 ticket winner, Susan Kleinsasser.

The Rowan House Women's Shelter has been offering support in the Foothills for almost 25 years.

Soldan shares why it's so important to help fund not just the Rowan House Society but all women's shelters.

"Today domestic violence and abuse are at epidemic levels. Rates of police-reported intimate partner violence and abuse experienced in rural areas are 75% higher than in urban areas. On average, every 2.5 days, one woman or girl is killed in Canada."

She added a heartfelt thanks to everyone who supports them so they can support the community.

"To our staff, our volunteers, our donors, our sponsors and our community, thank you for your continued support in providing hope and healing to the families of Rowan House Society. Your compassion and support do not go unnoticed and does make a difference to Rowan House Society in those seeking help and support.
