"If You Wander Far Enough" Exhibit by Jessica Plattner at the Okotoks Art Gallery

The first thing I noticed as I entered the large gallery was the beautiful use of colour, and then I felt compelled to investigate the intricacies and stories of each piece.

This exhibit is on display until June 18, 2016 in the large gallery and I invite you to take some time and see for yourself how as you walk in it draws you in for a closer look.

The description at the Art Gallery of this beautiful and colourful works is as follows:

If You Wander Far Enough considers the relationship between human activity and the natural world. Throughout the paintings, abandoned pipelines in various states of decay emerge from vast landscapes, observed by animals and birds from around the world.

The pipelines serve as literal and metaphorical conduits between wild and industrialized landscapes. These pipes also function visually as the most basic formal element of line, which draws the viewer deep into an illusion of space while simultaneously reinforcing the graphic flatness of the canvas. The work raises questions about how resource extraction and energy consumption affect the landscape and our relationship to it, both now and in the future.
