Nanton looks to northern neighbour for water

A grant from the Province's Water For Life program could help Nanton acquire a more secure water supply.

The Town of Nanton has completed a regional water study which indicates a pipeline from High River to Nanton for treated water may be feasible.

Now Nanton has requested formal support from the Town of High River to be able to pursue Water for Life funding for the regional potable water connection between the two municipalities.

Among the questions to be asked are whether High River's aquafer has the capacity to serve Nanton during periods of drought and the water plant needs to be stress tested to ensure it can meet filter capacity.

All work will be completed at no cost to the Town of High River, excluding staff time.

High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass says while the Town supports Nanton's bid for the grant, but it hasn't committed to anything beyond that.
