Highwood High School showed up to Provincials with five athletes looking to make a name for themselves at the Track and Field Provincials held in Edmonton this past weekend (June 7).

The weather conditions weren't optimal but the athletes put in their best effort, showcasing their skills against the province's best.

Jacob McLeish would take part in four different events at Foote Field. Unfortunately, due to a nagging shoulder and sore hip, he wasn't able to finish on top of the podium. The injuries wouldn't stop him from taking part though. McLeish took part in the discus, long jump, 100m, and the 4x100m relay. His relay team also consisted of Nathan Johnstone, Mike Schultz and Ethan Rich who helped the team reach fourth place after the final set, just 0.2 seconds short of third place.

Kirstyn Keller took part in the 100m sprint finishing seventh in her heat after worse weather hit on Saturday.

"This race gave Kirstyn a taste of the competitiveness of Provincials but let her know what to expect as she prepares for future track events," Craig Mathieson, a teacher from Highwood High, said in an email.
