There are a number of free family fun activities coming up this Family Day in High River.

However, there are also some free events lined up for this Saturday and Sunday too.

"We've spread it out throughout the whole weekend so there are free activities on Saturday and Sunday and then all-day on February 19th (Monday) from 11:00 a.m. till 3 p.m. the building will be open for free activities."

That's Recreation Supervisor at the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex Tracy Morgan.

With Monday Feb. 19 being a provincial holiday not all Albertans get the day off.

Morgan said that's why they spread out the free events throughout the weekend.

"You know not everybody gets stat holidays off, so how can we make it special and offer those times outside of the Monday."

So, the Town of High River has Saturday open for a free family swim from 2 to 4 p.m.

And then it's skating on Sunday with free family skating in the small arena from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then it switches to family shinny from 1 till 2:45 p.m.

On Family Day Monday, the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex will have the following free activities from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m.

So, it's family open swim at the pool, the small arena will host family skating, the large arena will have family shinny.

And in the Cargill Fieldhouse, the east side has family pickleball from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. with family open sports from 1 till 3 p.m.

On the west side of the fieldhouse, they'll have family open sports from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. and then it's family soccer from 1 till 3 p.m.

The Town reminds that helmets are mandatory for anyone on the ice and strollers are also permitted on both ice surfaces.

Children must be accompanied by an adult for the free events.

While all the activities are free, they are asking, if possible, to drop off something for Jump Start or the Food bank.
