As you may expect, there are a number of things to do in Okotoks over the family day long weekend.

Here are five free activities going on over the next few days.

  • Try ice fishing

On Saturday, the Okotoks and District Fish and Game Association is hosting an all-ages family ice fishing day at Kids Can Catch at Chain Lakes Reservoir.

They'll have fishing rods to borrow, but they're encouraging anyone who already has one to bring their own. They're also encouraging attendees to bring food, drinks, a lawn chair, and warm clothing.

Free hot chocolate and $1 hot dogs will be available.

It's being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and attendees are asked to register beforehand.

  • Learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons

Also on Saturday, the Okotoks Public Library is hosting an Intro to Dungeons and Dragons.

The adult event is free to attend and will provide a crash course for the fundamentals of D&D's fifth edition.

Premade characters will be available to try out to get a feel for the game.

It's scheduled to run from 2-5 p.m., and you can register on the library's website.

  • Ice skating

The Okotoks Recreation Centre is hosting two free public skate sessions, with one from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and another from 1-3 p.m.

You can also skate at the Centennial Arenas, with their leisure ice being open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Basketball

The rec centre's gymnasium will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for drop-in basketball.

  • Swimming

Public swim sessions are being hosted from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., with another from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m., and again from 2-3:30 p.m.

If you're planning on stopping by the town's recreation facilities, be sure to visit the Active Okotoks website to check the capacities for each activity.
