Environment Canada is asking residents of the Foothills to be prepared for possible thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon.

The weather agency issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch around 1:10 p.m.

The alert is in place for Blackie, Cayley, Diamond Valley, High River, Longview, Okotoks, Priddis and surrounding areas.

Meteorologists say that slow-moving thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening with possible hail, heavy rains, and lightning.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada also has rainfall warnings out for a large section of eastern Alberta from Grand Prairie through Rocky Mountain House and Kananaskis.
