11 drivers faced penalties on night one of the Ponoka Stampede, the fourth WPCA event of the season.

The weather could've been a bit of a factor with cool temperatures and light rain.

Last year's reigning champ, Layne MacGillivray took the top spot on the night with a penalty-free time of 1:13.43 with Luke Tournier, Cody Ridsdale and Rae Croteau Jr. rounding out the top four on the night.

They do run four wagons per heat in Ponoka, instead of the three wagons at the Calgary Stampede.

High River's Jason Glass was in the final heat of the night, heat #9, when he was hit with 6 seconds in penalties for OI (INF) - outrider interference on the infield and for LO (late outrider).  It leaves him in 31st position after day one. Without the penalties, Glass would've finished in first overall with a time of 1:13.09.

Jordie Fike from the Blackie area was in heat #1 and finished first in his heat ending up in 23rd with Dayton Sutherland finishing up in 27th.

All wagons get back on the track tonight as they head to the $75,000 Tommy Dorchester Championship Final heat on Sunday.
