The Foothills School Division has announced a new principal for Dr. Morris Gibson Elementary School in Okotoks.

After screening four potential applicants the division gave the position to Ms. Denise Nowicki, a former elementary school principal from Trail, BC.

Nowicki will replace long-time principal Tony Hampshire, who's career with the school division has spanned more than 30 years.

Assistant Superintendent, Learning Services Stacey Meyer says Nowicki will be an excellent replacement and is very qualified.

"We're very excited about her and the opportunities that she will bring to the school and the division. She is very passionate about educating young people. Her work around differentiation and instruction and making sure that learning applies to all children really resonated in her interview, so we look forward to her starting," says Meyer.

Nowicki holds Bachelor degrees in both Education and Science from the University of Calgary and a Ph.D., Measurement, Evaluation and Cognition from the University of Alberta.

Hampshire retires at the end of this school year and Nowicki takes over August 29.
