High Riverites who've travelled along Centre Street north of the bridge have seen some new additions to the landscape.

Work crews have placed a line of large boulders along Centre Street and east to 1st Avenue North.

It's all part of the Flood Impacted Debris Clean-up project.

Boulders will prevent vehicle access into the restored area.

According to the Town, the work will result in improved/enhanced fish and wildlife habitat under the Watershed Restoration and Resilience Program.

Council approved the budget for this work, which includes significant grant funding related to riparian habitat restoration and enhancements.

Given that the funding is quite limited, a number of plantings will be implemented with the goal of providing shade to deep pools on the Highwood River for fish.

Where the trees will be planted, and the type of trees will be decided by a professional.

Read more about this work in the report to Council during their September 11 Regular Meeting.
