The time to nominate people to this year's Alberta Order of Excellence is drawing to a close.

The Order is Alberta's highest honour, and is the provincial government's way of recognizing Albertans who have made a significant and lasting contribution to their community.

Since the Order's inceptions in 1979, 212 Albertans have been invested into the Order.

Members of the Order consist of Olympians, scientists, volunteers, artists, and musicians.

There are also numerous people from the Foothills area who have been selected to the Order of Excellence.

Some of those include historian Max Foran, Doc Seaman, Ron and Marg Southern (founders of Spruce Meadows), former Prime Minister Joe Clark, songwriter Ian Tyson, and former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy.

While nominations are open year-round, the Government of Alberta is asking for nominations to be submitted by February 15th in order for their nomination to be considered for this year.

In order to be nominated, the person must be a Canadian Citizen and currently live in Alberta.
