Farmers Waited for Years for a Legislative Fix to Rail Transportation

President of the Grain Growers of Canada, Jeff Nielsen, said the passing of Bill C-49 was a long, frustrating process.

Bill C-49, also known as the Transportation Modernization Act, received Royal Assent last Wednesday after being introduced in the House of Commons about a year ago.

Nielsen said, there's important aspects of the Bill they want to see in place for the upcoming crop year in August.

He adds, grain farmers have been waiting 30 years for this legislative fix to Canada's rail transportation system.

The CPTPP is a Big Deal for Agriculture

Farm groups are praising the tabling of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership in Parliament.

The trade agreement will increase Canada's access to the Asia-Pacific.

Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance said, it's important to be part of the first six countries to ratify the deal because at that point the trade deal would come into effect, and those countries will see tariff cuts.

The trade pact could increase Canadian agri-food exports by $1.84 billion.

Be Safe of the Roads!

Motorists are once again reminded to be courteous of farm equipment on the roads this time of year.

Newer farm equipment does have signal lights, so make sure you know the farm equipment isn't going to turn left before you pass on that left hand side.
