The Okotoks Museum and Archives are bringing stories of Okotoks families during World War II to life this spring.

The museum is hosting a monthly series of walks along the Veteran's Way wall. The first edition took place Saturday, April 30th.

The theme of the April walk was "Finding Love in the Midst of War."

Kathy Coutts, museum specialist, says she chose stories that focused on different kinds of love.

"When I was originally researching this month's tour, "Finding Love in the Midst of War," I was really thinking I could just fill the hour tour with war bride stories and love stories. But I realize there's more to love than just love stories between a serviceman and a war bride, for example. There really is love of country, and love of family, and so I wanted to include stories of love of country. Particularly families who had 2, 3, 4 members of their family serve their country. Quite remarkable stories of their willingness to step forward and fight for their country," Coutts said.

"Finding Love in the Midst of War" ties in with an exhibit at the Museum & Archives called "Love Stories". Coutts said researching the exhibit helped her find stories for this month's walking tour.

"I love doing the research. It's like uncovering hidden gems, and then creating a exhibit or tour, helps bring those hidden stories out into the public. And to share those stories. As long as people are willing to come to a tour and listen to these stories i'm going to continue to tell them," Coutts said.

The Museum and Archives' next walking tour is scheduled for April 20th, with subsequent dates in May and June.
