High River's Museum of the Highwood has been back open for visitors for a few weeks now.

Curator Irene Kerr says with the pandemic still on, visitors are coming from different areas than they did before.

"It's been pretty interesting because, of course with all the restrictions on travel and the border being closed and the difficulties in flying and everything, we're finding that most of our visitors are from Alberta," she says. "It's kind of nice because we're meeting all kinds of people that might have gone elsewhere for their holidays, so we're finding people from all over Alberta, northern Alberta, a lot of people are coming to High River from Calgary, I think they just want to do short little day trips and what's closer to Calgary than High River."

She says the TV show Heartland still draws the crowds in.

Kerr says they have exhibits on Spitzee Post, the Unfair Trade, the aboriginal fur trade, W.O. Mitchell and their film exhibit which shows all the major motion pictures and TV shows the town has been home to.

She says thanks to federal employment grants they have some summer students working at the museum this summer making sure everything is done according to health regulations.

The museum's open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
