The Town of Okotoks has started a new initiative to help spread positivity.

Kindness Currency recognizes residents acts of kindness in the community by giving them a decal that reads "Okotoks Stronger Together".

Zach Adams, Community Events Coordinator for the Town of Okotoks, says when a resident is recognized they have the opportunity to pass it on to others.

"We're treating them as ways to recognize acts of kindness in the community, positive deeds, kindness, anything really positive. When someone gets awarded the Kindness Currency we're asking them to pay it forward, so we're giving them two decals which they then use to reward someone else with kindness or whatever deed they did to contribute to positivity in the community."

Hubtown Brewing was the first recipient of Kindness Currency from the Town for their fundraising efforts during the pandemic as they donated $10,000 to the Okotoks Food Bank.

Adams says there's multiple ways to receive a kindness currency decal.

"We are giving them out, we're finding stories in the community and then we also have a few other groups that are handing them out and we're looking at other groups to help reward them," he explains. "Also, if you get one you get the chance to reward someone and we want those stories to be shared with us so then we can also highlight those ones and get more stories shared in the community."

Stories can be shared to social media by using the hashtag #okotoksstrongertogether.
