The Western Hockey League (WHL) held their prospect draft yesterday (May 9) and three members of this past season's U15 AAA Okotoks Oilers had their names called during the draft.

Many eyes were on the draft as Landon DuPont, who was awarded with exceptional player status, was selected first overall by the Everitt Silvertips, which surprised nobody.

Paxton Cabana was the first of the U15 AAA Oilers players selected, being picked by the Kamloops Blazers in the eighth round and 156th overall. Cabana is originally from Chestermere. He is a left-handed defenceman who put up 17 points in 34 games with the Oilers.

High River native Gus Rustebakke was the next U15 AAA Oiler to get selected when the Prince George Cougars picked him up in the tenth round and 212th overall. Rustebakke had 26 points in 27 games for the Oilers and found the back of the net nine times for goals.

The final U15 AAA Oiler to be selected was Ashton McCann who the Swift Current Broncos took in the tenth round with the 216th overall selection. McCann had 29 points in 23 games with 14 of his points coming from goals.

The U15 AAA Oilers also announced that they will be going with Daron Dumanski as their head coach this season. Dumanski was the head coach of the U15 AA Okotoks Oilers last year and will now be in charge of the U15 AAA team moving forward.
