Two suspects charged in relation to a string of break-ins a various Southern Alberta golf courses were also involved in a shelter-in-place incident in Didsbury.

On Feb. 9 just after 5 a.m., a break and enter in progress was reported at  Silver Willow Farm Sporting Club located in Mountain View County.

The complainant was notified of the break-in via the business's security system, and drove to the location soon after.

Two suspects were seen entering a vehicle in an attempt to flee the scene, but the car became stuck.

A male suspect then exited the car, pointed a long-barreled rifle at the complainant, and ran toward their vehicle.

The suspect then allegedly shot at the complainant.

Though the vehicle was struck, the complainant was luckily uninjured.

RCMP set up a containment at the scene after they arrived, and a shelter-in-place order was placed on the area.

Local police had assistance from the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, as well as Olds and Airdrie RCMP.

Kyle Nechiporenko (37) of Calgary faces the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Discharge a firearm with intent
  • Failing to comply with probation order
  • Possession of a firearm without holding a license
  • Failing to comply with weapons prohibition order
  • Using a disguise to commit an indictable offence
  • Driving while unauthorized

Soleil Wenas (20 of Calgary was also charged:

  • Possession of a firearm without holding a license
  • Fail to comply with release order conditions

Both are also facing the following charges:

  • Break & Enter with intent to steal a firearm
  • Weapon dangerous to the public peace (bear spray)
  • Use a firearm while committing an indictable offence
  • Use imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Possess break & enter instruments

Both were remanded into custody to appear in court in Didsbury this week.

The two were also linked to break-ins at several other golf courses in Southern Alberta, including three in the Foothills, along with a third suspect.
