The Society for Millarville School has gotten a welcome boost in funding for its new playground.

They were the recipient of the most recent 100 Women Who Care Foothills donation.

Since January of this year, the society has been looking to raise money to replace the 30-year-old playground, which has seen some major breaks to its equipment recently.

Due to its age, the playground isn't able to undergo repairs, and replacement parts aren't available.

Replacing it will take some doing, with a total price tag of $420,000, according to society president Ellisha Francis.

She says the $12,700 donation from 100 Women will go toward a specific piece of equipment.

"They're going to do a feature sponsorship for a piece called 'Riding the Wave.' It's a new climber that the kids will be able to take advantage of when the playground's in the ground."

Four times a year, 100 Women members make pitches for a group to donate to, with representatives presenting to the organization.

Francis had no qualms with getting up in front of the members.

"It (felt) amazing to present to these wonderful women. Their society as a whole is a phenomenal thing, they're a great group of women and we're very honoured to receive these funds."

A few students from Millarville school attended the handing over of the donation, and are pretty stoked at the prospect of a new playground.

"They're over-the-moon excited, of course, as any child would be. They love their playground but unfortunately, things do break and they lose certain features, so they're very excited for a new one."

The society has been busy applying for grants and planning fundraisers over the last few months.

They've got a sizable fundraiser coming up, dubbed the "Hootenanny in the Hills."

It's an adults-only 80s-themed night featuring bingo, a 50/50, and auctions, among other festivities.

The event is a joint event between the Society for Millarville School and the Millarville Sports Association., scheduled for October 1 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
