Smoke cancels Battle of the Bands but people fill up Spring Market and streets for car show

The 64th annual Little Britches Parade brought hundreds of people to High River on Saturday.

Once the parade was over people spilled into the streets to watch a trick roper dazzle kids and adults alike, a mini car show and shine and to quench their thirst and fill their stomachs at the food trucks.

There was also a Spring Market hosted by Inclusion Foothills in the Highwood Centre which many people escaped to in order to avoid the smoke that started to settle on the crowd as the parade was wrapping up.  80 vendors were set up with many home-based businesses.

The heavy smoke, due to the wildfires in northern Alberta, started to settle in and it led to the cancellation of the Battle of the Bands in George Lane Park with the marching bands from the parade.  The good news was the famous beef on a bun from the Highwood Lions Club was still served up to the marching bands and available for the public.

At The Venue on 5th Avenue people were treated to some live musical performances including the YYC Youth Jazz Band which features High River musician Jordan Middleton who recently performed at a Gift of Music Society event (see link below).
