Parents in the Okotoks community that have children learning to skate have many places to teach them, including the new and improved Leisure Ice at Pason Centennial Arena.

Susan Laurin, Community and Protective Services Director with the Town of Okotoks, says this activity has been a big hit since it was opened.

"The leisure ice is actually very popular, and council has made it free of charge for people," she said.

Laurin says they've added a feature that will enhance the experience for all.

"We've just added projections from the ceiling. There can be bubbles and fish, or a bridge that breaks, so the kids can skate around through a whole bunch of different things that are on the ice, it's pretty cool," she said.

The Leisure Ice was first opened last Family Day, but closed through the summer, and re-opened this past September after some deficiency work and the addition of the projection.

Patrons can enjoy images projected onto the ice, a warm fireplace, and a full- size television, free of charge.

Leisure Ice can be utilized daily from 9 a.m. through 9 p.m., with the exception of Learn To Skate classes on Wednesday after school, and Saturday mornings.
