Red Cross Honours two men for their exceptional work

The Canadian Red Cross has recognized Tom Jackson and Charles Weaselhead as Members of the Order of the Red Cross.

It's the organization’s highest award for extraordinary people who have provided outstanding humanitarian service at home and abroad.

Tom Jackson is well known as a musician, actor, and activist, whose Huron Carols have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for food banks across the country.

He was an ambassador for the Red Cross during the 2013 floods and also helped with its relief efforts during the Fort McMurray wildfire, the Humboldt bus crash, and through the COVID-19 pandemic where he supported the Indigenous Help Desk in 2020-21.

Former Blood Tribe Chief and Treaty 7 Grand Chief Charles Weaselhead was also honoured.

According to a release from the Canadian Red Cross, in 1998 as CEO of the Blood Tribe Department of Health, he formalized a Memorandum of Understanding with the Red Cross based on the mutual vision to create healthy and resilient communities through shared values, respect, and collaboration.

Close to 400 people have been appointed to the Order of the Red Cross over the last 39 years.
