It could be one of the busiest long weekends of the year and Alberta RCMP are getting ready to enforce traffic safety.

They want drivers to remove all distractions, including phones and make sure children are belted in properly as distracted driving is one of the leading causes of collisions.

Make sure you're staying within the speed limit and slowing down if conditions are not ideal.

Be mindful of recreational vehicles, like ATV’s and motorcycles because they can be harder to see.

And of course, never drive while under the influence, whether it's drugs or alcohol.

Last year over the Heritage Day long weekend, Alberta RCMP issued over 2,000 tickets.
