The provincial government is opening their doors to the public for free this Family Day Monday.

They usually offer complimentary visits to many provincial museums and historical sites.

And they open up the legislature in Edmonton on Family Day Monday too.

From 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. they have a wide variety of free entertainment lined up.

For most of us though in southern Alberta and the Foothills area one of the closer sites is the Head-Smashed-in Buffalo Jump near Fort Macleod and the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. The Turner Valley Gas Plant's also on the list however they're closed in the winter. It's unfortunate the plant isn't opened as it was the site of some filming for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The Royal Tyrell Museum is always a big hit in Drumheller however they've already sold out of their complimentary tickets.

Family Day was created in 1990 by then Premier Don Getty.  Alberta was also the first province to enact the Family Day holiday in the country.
