Three Okotoks Oilers helped propel Canada West to a gold medal performance in the World Junior A Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia.

The team finished the preliminary round with only a 1 and 3 record but were able to beat the U.S. 4-3 in overtime on Saturday in one of two semi-final games.

And it was Okotoks Oiler Sam Huck scoring the overtime winner which propelled the team into the gold medal match on Sunday.

Another one of the teams that beat Canada West in the prelims was Canada East and they faced off against each other to decide the championship.

And it was Canada West under the captaincy of Oiler Jack Silverberg that guided them to a 7-2 win.  Silverberg opened the scoring too off a pass from fellow Oiler Sam Huck in the gold medal match.

The U.S. won bronze.
