Music will fill the air again this weekend in support of the Okotoks Food Bank and the It Takes a Village charity.

After a successful inaugural year, the team behind the Okotoks Music Drive will be bringing back the sweet sounds of local artists.

This Saturday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., the Okotoks Music Drive will see local musicians take to their driveways to perform mini-concerts for passersby, all while raising money for the Okotoks Foodbank and new to this year, It Takes a Village.

"This year I wanted to organize it with It Takes a Village," says Andrea Siqueira, who is once again helping organize the event. "It's a small little nonprofit organization in Okotoks. Lots of people don't know about it. It's beautiful.  For moms that are single parents, single mothers. They get donations for children from zero to seven."

This event, like last year, is an opportunity to raise spirits and bring neighbours together.

"You know we're all empowering each other, and this is not about just one person doing this. It's about everybody getting on board and doing this together."

She adds the loss of Mayor Bill Robertson still weighs heavy in her heart and is dedicating this event to him and his family.

"He lived just down the street from me. He came by with his bike, he looked absolutely healthy and happy, with him was his wife, beautiful Elaine, and she's going to be there tomorrow at 1:30. She's going to be at our house and it's going to be remembering Bill."

She teamed up with local musician Wes Hall to get some acts to join in this year, something Hall has experience with.

"I’ve had the opportunity to do this a few times now with the Okotoks Music Festival. Rounding up entertainment for these kinds of events seems to become a forte for me I guess. So Andrea and I this year are been working on it. Now we have at least eight or nine different acts now that are going to be performing this weekend."

Wes, in addition to helping organize the event, is also performing that day with his band 'The Handsome Devils.' He is glad events like this are coming back for musicians.

"It's been tough for a lot of musicians. I have a lot of friends that are professional musicians and they've been hit really hard by this whole COVID pandemic thing. Some of them had their livings cut right out from under them."

"We're all working guys as it is, we do this for the love of it so my whole band is going to be out in my driveway, tearing up the neighbourhood."
