An Okotoks swimmer just won gold on the world stage.

Finlay Knox is in Doha, Qatar competing in the 2024 World Aquatics Championships.

The Okotoks Mavericks alum won gold in the men's 200m Medley, beating his own record for the event.

He's reset the Canadian record to 1:56.64 and it's his fifth time doing so, most recently in March of 2023.

This time around, he bested his previous time by 0.62 seconds, leaving the Canadian record just over two seconds behind Ryan Lochte's national record of 1:54.00.

The gold medal is Knox's first at the world championships, and he's the first Canadian male swimmer to earn gold since Brent Hayden in 2007.
