Both of the Senior Falcons basketball teams competed in the Heartbreak tournament in Magrath last weekend, where they both not only made it to the bronze medal game but they each won bronze.

During their first game, the girls took on the team from Cardston.

With four members of the Falcons scoring double digits, the Falcons were able to build up their lead each quarter, finally defeating Cardston 77-49.

Their second game was against the #1 ranked Raymond Comets, who are currently undefeated against opponents from Alberta, and is led by Team Canada player Delaney Gibb.

While the Falcons were only down by 2 after the first quarter, the Comets' offense was too fast paced, causing the gap to widen throughout the game.

The Comets defeated the Falcons 86-60.

During the Bronze game, the Falcons took on the girls from Scona in Edmonton.

Even though they were dealing with illness and exhaustion from this being their 14th game in 28 days, the Falcons were able to get an early lead.

While the girls from Scona were able to mount a bit of a comeback during the first half, they weren't able to get ahead of the Falcons throughout the game.

The Falcons won the bronze medal match 53-36.

The Falcons had also beaten Scona during the St. FX championship last December.

Meanwhile, the boys began the tournament by taking on the 4th place Medicine Hat Hawks.

While the Falcons displayed exceptional defense and worked well together offensively, they weren't able to hang onto the lead they held over the Hawks.

The Hawks defeated the Falcons 68-64.

Their second game went better for the Falcons, which saw them take on the currently ranked 5th St. FX.

After a hard-fought back and forth game, it looked like St. FX was going to snag the win, but after sinking two free throws in the last few seconds of the game, the Falcons were able to win 74-73.

During their bronze match, they took on the Cardston Cougars, where the Flacons were able to get ahead by 20-4 early on.

Even though the Cougars tried to mount a comeback, the Falcons were able to re-widen the gap during the second half, winning 80 to 63 and taking home the Bronze.

While the Heartbreaker tournament was the final tournament the Falcons will attend this season, they are playing some exhibition games this Friday night (Feb 23rd).

The Sr. Boys will be taking on the boys from Manning at 4:30 p.m., while the JV boys will take on Manning at 6:15 p.m.

The Sr. Girls are taking on Lethbridge Collegiate Institute at 8 p.m.

There will be a "Senior Night" presentation for the Grade 12's on Friday before they play their last game of their High School career.
