Night to Shine to once again roll out the red carpet for special abilities

The annual Night to Shine returns to the Foothills Centennial Centre next Friday, Feb. 9.

Night to Shine was created by the Tim Tebow Foundation, with events held in hundreds of cities across North America each year.

Locally, it's organized by MyCityCare Okotoks.

Director Lorna Jewer explains that the premise of the event is all in the name. 

"It's a prom-like event for members of our community with special abilities. We have dinner planned, a dance as well, some games, and a red carpet-experience. We get to celebrate those members of our community with special abilities like the kings and queens they are."

The event is free of charge for guests. 

Attendees must be 14 years old or older and are encouraged to dress up for the glamorous occasion.

Jewer says the event is still fairly new in town.

"We started up in 2020 and that was during COVID, so it looked a lot different at that time. We delivered party boxes to our clients so that they could celebrate with us remotely. Since then, it's grown and last year was our first big event. This year it looks like it's going to be even bigger.

She says it takes a good number of volunteers and donors, and they're currently accepting volunteers, donations, and sponsors.
