Eddie and Jessica Maurice continue to be in "wait and see" mode when it comes to their pending lawsuits with Ryan Watson.

The pair made their way to Edmonton Tuesday, November 5, for the Province's announcement on changes to rural crime and victim's rights legislation.

One of the pieces of legislation the Province wants to introduce would stop convicted criminals from suing the people they've victimized.

Justice Minister Doug Schweitzer, says he'd make it retroactive to January of 2018, a month before the incident with the Maurice's.

Jessica Maurice says she's not sure if that would help them now that they're already in the midst of legal action.

"You know, at this point we're not sure how it's going to affect our case or if it's going to affect our case. We're really pleased that it will definitely make some changes going forward for all rural Albertans and that the government seems to be listening to what needs to be done to protect people in the future. But for our case, we still have to chat with our lawyer and figure out what the ramifications might be."

Maurice says she and Eddie have been turned into the poster children for rural crime, which she says can be tough, but at the same time necessary because it's relatable.
