A heartfelt kickoff to Seniors’ Week happened this morning. Usually, the town would have a huge tea and celebration but, much like last year, restrictions have forced us to adapt and change the way we celebrate.

The Town of Okotoks has proclaimed Seniors’ Week as June 7-13, 2021 to honour, recognize and celebrate the importance of seniors in the community and all that they do to help make Okotoks "Stronger Together."

Jana Giger, community wellness specialist says the seniors are missing the tea but they have lots prepared

"Hopefully next we can get back to the seniors' tea. That's what the seniors love ... So we've got this the bag giveaway today, we've got bagpipes on Friday, we've got a free coffee or small hot beverage and cookie at Tim Hortons on Wednesday."

Residents can find out more on the town's website.

Pitcher for the Okotoks Dawgs Graham Brunner was showing his support by volunteering for the giveaway.

"This is my fourth year here for the summer and we love supporting the seniors because obviously our fan base pretty big and most of them are seniors. It's good to give back."
