The High River RCMP is asking residents to have a safe Christmas holiday and to be responsible when it comes to risks this holiday season.

Constable Jill Kingdon-Mills says they will be cracking down on DUI's.

"Well I mean our big message is just please don't do it. We don't want to see anyone get into a predicament with losing their driver's license, dealing with fines, or vehicle seizures but even more so, I don't want anyone to have to receive bad news, any time of the year, but definitely not through the holiday season."

She says there's always another option or solution better than driving if you're under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

"Please think ahead, have a sober driver, or look for different options. Can you have a sleep-over somewhere? Is the weather nice enough for you to walk home? Just look for options and just don't do it."

She says even if you're not drinking but have participated in drug use, including prescription medications and drive impaired, you will have to deal with the same charges and repercussions as drinking and driving.

There is no charity check-stop this year, but Kingdon-Mills says real check stops will be in place and cruisers will be looking out for those disobeying the rules.
