A local pilot, philanthropist and all-around well-loved member of the community will be remembered on Friday, December 20.

A Celebration of Life for Alex Bahlsen is going to be held at the Nanton Bomber Command Museum at 1:00 p.m.

Bahlsen was piloting a small aircraft when it crashed on Gabriola Island in BC on December 10.

His family is thanking the community for their outpouring of support and kind words in the wake of the tragedy.

Bahlsen came to Canada from Germany and settled down with his family in the Foothills, where he became a Flight Instructor and Owner of AJ Air Ranch.

He worked closely with the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton and was well respected in the aviation community.

The family would like to set up a memorial fund in Bahlsen's name, and will be accepting donations in lieu of flowers.
