High River’s young entrepreneurs get a chance to shine this week.

August 19 is Lemonade Day in High River.

Special Events Coordinator with the Town of High River, Heather Ross, says it’s a chance for youth to gain some real-life experience.

“It’s a community-wide program designed for youth to operate their own business. They learn valuable skills, real-life experience, they’re going to learn about budgeting, how to business plan, advertise, work with investors, and at the end of the day they have to account for their business results and how their business did.”

High River’s Lemonade Day is held in partnership with Lemonade Day Calgary, which allows for youth, as well as mentors, partners, and volunteers, to participate.

Ross says locals can help out simply by providing space.

“If a business is interested in being what we call a ‘sweet spot,’ where the youth can set up their stand, they can reach out to events@highriver.ca, then we’ll put them on the list so that when we let the kids know where to set up, they’re welcome to be a part of that.”

On the same weekend, the town is holding the Wild Rose Carnival, which will include classic carnival food, midway rides, and games at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

More information on Lemonade Day and the Wild Rose Carnival can be seen on the town’s website.
