A High River volunteer was recently honoured for his efforts.

John Nikulak has volunteered 10,000 hours including at the lab at the High River Hospital and other causes.

"I volunteer at the Lions Club and at the United Church Women's League, and I have to laugh because they made me an honourary member of the UCW," he says.

He calls himself a "people watcher" and that's why he's put in so many hours.

In fact, to volunteer 10,000 hours you'd have to work 24 hours a day for 411.1 days straight.

The folks at the lab have given him a nickname: Doc.

"There was a gentleman coming out of the lab and he hit the wall twice and I knew what was happening and I caught him because he would have fallen on his face and broken his nose, he passed out because he doesn't like needles," Nikulak says.
