Both the High River Flyers and Okotoks Bisons lost in their home openers Friday night.

The Okotoks Bisons lost 4-2 to the Coaldale Copperheads.

The Bisons came out on a high note in the first period, scoring two goals and heading into the second period with a two-goal lead only to lose it in the second with the Copperheads scoring three goals, the third one second before the second period ended.

The Copperheads confirmed their win scoring the fourth goal in the third period.

The Bisons head to Strathmore on Sunday.

The High River Flyers fell to the Cochrane Generals 7-3.

Even with the loss, the Flyers can celebrate six minor hockey players receiving scholarships from the Eli Gosselin scholarship fund.

Byron Thrift, Tate Barton, Chace Martin, Asher Byers, Hunter Tharle and David Wheeler each received $500.

The Flyers head to Coaldale Saturday night.

Puck drop is 8 pm.
