It isn't just skyrocketing insurance costs hitting school boards.

Assistant superintendent with the Foothills School Division, Drew Chipman says there are other costs hurting them.

"To this point, to the end of February of this year we've spent $68,000 more on fuel than we did to this point last year and fuels jumped up 10, 12 cents a litre since the end of February ," Chipman says.

He expects spending on fuel will jump by over $100,000 by the end of the school year.

The division has received what's called bridge funding to help move from one budgeting system to another a couple of years ago.

Chipman says if that doesn't continue then that extra money will have to come out of operating costs and come from the classroom.

The division is still asking people to go to the school division's website and provide feedback on efficiencies or revenue generating ideas through the Ideas That Make Cents survey.
