The new school calendar is out for the Foothills School Division.

Students will head back to class Sept. 6, the day after Labour Day.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says there will be one professional day moved because the division will again recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

"There is a date that's been moved early in the school year, the calendars have already been printed up though, those little calendar cards, so we will be communicating through our schools of that change now and in advance of that date so everyone's aware."

"It doesn't change the amount of school days in a school year it simply moves one day that was not a Professional Learning Day to Professional Learning Day status and another day that was a Professional Learning Day to a regular school day," explains Fuzessy.

He says there are also some additional operational days built-in before school starts to give teachers more time to get acquainted with the new curriculum.

The division also moved a Professional Day because it'll again recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
