The Calgary Flames have made some changes to how they handle their goalies, by restructuring their goaltending department.

Flames G.M. Brad Treliving says the idea is to help the club, "identify, draft, develop, procure and coach goalies."

The team's first move was to hire Jason Labarbera as their full-time goalie coach

Labarbera is working as Team Canada's goalie coach for the World Juniors.

The team signed former Vancouver Canuck Jakob Markstrum over the off season, who will work along side Flames veteran netminder, David Rittich, who's in the final year of his contract with the Flames.

The Flames current goalie coach, Jordan Sigalet will oversee all of the goaltending operations for the club.

Specifically, Sigalet will focus on NHL drafting, professional goaltending procurement and all goaltender development within the organization.

This is Sigalet’s seventh season with the Flames after three seasons as the Goaltending Coach with Calgary’s AHL affiliate in Abbotsford.
